The RX-Z11 (Z11) embodies the latest in HD audio and video coupled with a never before seen 11.2 channels and the industry-first THX Ultra2 Plus certification, and that’s just the beginning. It offers the ultimate flexibility for multi-zone configuration and a wide array of inputs such as, five HDMI, two USB, Ethernet and four Component Video inputs. To fully appreciate this product it needs to be experienced at one of our authorised Yamaha Z11 dealers who are trained and equipped for maximising the potential of this flagship receiver.
11.2 Channels of Sound
A world-first 11.2 channels from Yamaha provides an experience unrivalled in any other product. Yamaha takes an existing 7.1 channel source and extends this into an 11.2 channel experience. Front and rear presence speakers are added, providing the most immersive surround sound experience achieved in a home environment.
DSP HD3
Yamaha has long been a leader in the development of DSP – Digital Sound Field Processing, which reproduces the aural experience of being immersed within any number of acoustic environments. With the release of the Z11, a new era in DSP processing has arrived. Utilising front and rear presence speakers, the Z11 produces a heightened soundstage creating a true cinematic experience.
Standard 5.1 or 7.1 channel audio, while providing surround effects, offers quite a flat soundstage. Through the use of unique algorithms, HD3 mode can transform a small theatre room into a large movie theatre or concert hall. Front and rear walls seem to disappear, while the ceiling feels like it no longer exists. Music in HD3 mode recreates the experience of being in a large concert hall such as the Hall in Stuttgart or the Roxy Theatre in New York.
The end result is a truly encompassing experience with greater depth and height providing a completely immersive sound field.
High Definition
High Definition is one of the most common phrases in the home electronics market today. Relating to both audio and video, true high definition offers consumers an experience akin to that of cinema. Sources offering 1080p video such as Blu-Ray and HD DVD represent the ultimate in visual reproduction. The Z11 has the capacity to upscale any standard definition source and output this in stunning 1080p resolution, turning a standard definition DVD into full HD. Support for high definition is encompassed in the Z11 adopting the latest version of HDMI, version 1.3a, with added compatibility for xvYCC colour space and Deep Colour transmission – which translates to billions of colours.
In relation to sound, on-board decoding of the latest HD audio codecs from Dolby and DTS Laboratories ensure full compatibility with both Blu-Ray and HD DVD source material. High definition audio from the world’s first 11.2 channel receiver – designed to deliver an unprecedented experience.
Multi-zone Flexibility
More than simply a reference home theatre receiver, the Z11 provides a very unique level of flexibility to suit individual needs. This flexibility is delivered through the configuration of in-built multi-zone settings that allows you to enjoy different sources throughout your home simultaneously. Multi-zone can allow you to listen to a CD player in one room and radio in another all while someone’s enjoying a movie in the theatre room.
Utilising each of the 11 powered channels, the Z11 can deliver up to four zones with independent audio which includes two of these zones with high-definition video. Below are some examples of solutions the Z11 can be configured for.
* 11.2 channels in the main zone
* 9.2 channels with the front speakers bi-amped
* 9.2 channels with powered zone 2
* 7.2 channels with the front speakers bi-amped and powered zone 2
* 7.2 channels with powered zone 2 and 3
* 5.2 channels with the front speakers bi-amped and powered zone 2 and zone 3
* 5.2 channels with powered zones 2, 3 and 4
* Party mode where all zones play the same source material
* Configure secondary zones to run multiple speakers
Alternatively, you could use the Z11 as a pre-amp and use separate power amplifiers. This means each of the 11 internal amplifiers can then be configured to operate zones 2, 3 and 4 with multiple speakers. Zone-mono can also be engaged to allow speakers in secondary zones to run in mono sound if required. Further to this, the unique feature Party Mode has been added. This ensures all zones you’ve selected play the same source making it ideal for parties.
The Z11 offers component video out and coaxial digital audio out to zone 2, the only receiver in Yamaha’s range to do so. This can cater for the operation of a secondary home theatre sourced directly from the main zone. Zone 2 also has digital to analogue converters that will allow a digital source from the main zone to run into zone 2, using the internal amplifiers.
